The ship can be identified from the stork on her stern as the Ooeivaar

in Kensington Palace and was often to be seen walking in Kensington Gardens

between 1638 and 1641

Susan Jay and her Dog Type:unstretched canvas Above the podium of theThe date is illegible, but is recorded in a label formerly on the verso (now on file) as 1821. The donor provided an undated note concerning Susan Jay, saying she became a Catholic convert and entered a convent at Croyden, upon which her father condemned her portrait to the attic; it descended through her younger brother, John Jay, at the death of whose widow the portrait was recieved by Mrs Mason who presented it to Dulwich.
