Chouaniere was an accomplished abstract expressionist painter whose work was deeply rooted in lived experience and shaped by a lifetime of movement, observation, and cultural exchange. Born in Brest, Brittany, France, he joined the French Resistance at the age of sixteen during the Second World War. After the war, he studied at the coles des Beaux
