フランク・ロイド・ライトに師事し、カリフォルニアで住居を多く手がけたモダニズムの建築家、ジョン・ロートナー。ロサンゼルスのゲティ研究所が所蔵するロートナーの建築模型をドイツ人アーティスト、トーマス・デマンドが撮影した写真集。ボール紙などで作られたそれらの模型は無骨で、クライアントを喜ばせるために作られたというよりも、純粋に研究目的で作られたものばかり。デマンドはその全体像ではなく、曲線や残されたメモ書きなどのディティールをストイックに写しとってゆく。
